Week Three: Five Things We Have Been Loving This Week

April 28, 2023

Today’s Blog Post

It has been over two weeks since our last post in this series, and we are excited to share some of the things that have brought us joy recently. If you are new to the blog, this is a series in which we share five things we have been loving this week, encompassing everything from films and books to new recipes and even the weather. In fact, we mention the weather a lot, but the justification for it is that this time of year is when I really notice how much the weather affects my mood! A sunny day can really make all the difference when you are coming out of the cold and dark days of winter. Without further ado, please enjoy today’s post!

Thing 1: Dogs ❤️

We are starting this off on a bit of a bittersweet note. Since many of you don’t know us personally, you won’t know that we absolutely love dogs. We have had dogs in our family since we were kids, and Sofie now has a dog of her own as well called Bowie. Last week, we sadly had to say goodbye to our family dog Kylie, who had been with us for around 14 years. It was a tough week because she was sick, hence why we weren’t on the blog or social media very much. But she was an amazing dog who had a wonderful life! We will miss her so much and think of her always. We are also lucky to have our other dogs, Viggo and Bowie and Blue (our brother’s dog), to cheer us up. So of course, number one on this list this week is dogs 😊

Thing 2: Brunch or Breakfast for Dinner

Another thing that I have really been loving recently is having brunch or breakfast foods for dinner. I think that people often forget that meals are a made-up thing. You can eat whatever you want whenever you want! I consider dinner a meal that I should spend more time preparing, but that’s not a hard and fast rule. Sometimes, it’s easiest to just have a bowl of yoghurt and granola after a very busy day. Plus, breakfast foods are some of the best foods in the world, so why not make them for dinner? I recently made shakshuka for dinner with homemade flatbread and it was amazing. While it certainly wasn’t a low-effort meal, it was a nice change from the usual. Breakfast/brunch for dinner? Would highly recommend!

Thing 3: Sunday Baking

I am certain that I have mentioned this before on the blog, but I have also been loving a nice day of baking on a Sunday. Of course, I know that not everyone has the time to do this every week, but once in a while, it can be really fun! I like to bake at least one batch of bread, whether it’s loaves or rolls, and one batch of dessert. This keeps me covered for breakfasts and desserts throughout the week. It is undeniably cheaper and tastier than buying them at the store. Plus, it is so much fun! I like to use our recipe for fødselsdagsboller and mix it up with whatever I have available. Add seeds, oats, and raisins for some filling and nutritious additions, or add chocolate if you have a sweet tooth. Usually, I add all of the above! Honestly, give me a Sunday of baking with music on in the background and that is my version of heaven.

Thing 4: Trips to the Movies!

Next, I wanted to mention one of my favorite hobbies, which is going to the movies. Or, as the Brits call it, going to the cinema! My boyfriend and I have monthly passes to one of the big movie theater chains here in the UK. It only costs us about 20 dollars each per month to see any movie we want to see. With the cost of individual tickets these days, it means we only have to go twice to benefit! We have used these for nearly two years and have seen countless films, including plenty of Oscar nominees and winners. Recent movies that we have enjoyed include Dungeons and Dragons (I really didn’t expect to like this one), Air, and Pearl. There is just something about watching movies on the big screen that gives you the full experience and is not the same as watching them at home. I would definitely recommend heading to the movies soon to see something new – it’s such a fun night out!

Walking in nice weather.

Thing 5: Spring Heat Waves

Finally, I wanted to mention the weather, of course. While I do not enjoy a burning hot and humid summer heat wave, a bit of spring sunshine can make a big difference. I know that the east coast in the US had some sunshine last week and the UK is hopefully gearing up for some soon (fingers crossed!). I can’t wait for some nicer walks and runs in better weather, not to mention being able to sit outdoors at pubs, cafes, and restaurants. We have gotten a taste, and now we just want it to continue! And then, knowing me, I will change my mind as soon as it gets a little too hot. 🥵 But for now, I’ll enjoy it while it lasts!
